Connect an Xbox 360 to your wireless network
You can connect your Xbox 360 to Xbox LIVE by using an Ethernet cable, a wireless adaptor or via a third party wireless bridge configured to connect to your Sky Broadband wireless network.
Please remember that if you have the Xbox 360 Elite, a third party wireless bridge is not needed, as these consoles have inbuilt wireless capability.
Before you start, switch on your games console and check that your Sky router is connected to the internet.
Please note that the Sky router images may be different from your Sky router at home, but the principle of connecting to the internet is exactly the same.
To connect your Xbox to the internet using wires you’ll need an Ethernet cable. This is the yellow or black cable that came with your Sky router.
Plug the Ethernet cable into one of the sockets at the back of your Sky router and put the other end into your Xbox 360.
To check the connection is working:
- Select System Settings from the my X-box menu then select Network Settings. A wired network connection should appear with a tick in the top right hand corner.
- Press A to select this, then test X-box Live Connection, and then press A to confirm.
That’s it. You’re ready to go.
Step 1: Connect your Xbox to the internet wirelessly
If you own the Xbox 360 Elite, please go directly to the next step.
If you are using an Xbox 360 with a third-party wireless bridge, you'll need to configure the bridge to connect to your Sky router. Once the wireless bridge is connected, the set-up procedure is the same as connecting using wires, so use the instructions above for connecting your Xbox to the internet.
Step 2: Go to System Settings
With the Xbox 30 turned on, use your controller and scroll through the options on the screen until you find the System Settings menu.
Press the A button and you’ll be taken to the System Settings Screen.
Step 3: Choose Network Settings
From the System Settings screen, choose Network Settings, then configure network.
Step 4: Find your wireless network name
Look for your wireless network from the list of available networks and select it. You can find these details on the Connect card or the Keep me handy card that came with your Sky router and on the side or bottom of your Sky router.
Unless you’ve changed it, your wireless network name will be something like “SKY” followed by five numbers. For example SKY 12345.
Step 5: Scan for Networks
A list of codes will now appear after you have configured the network in the Network Settings of your Xbox 360. Look for the one that matches yours and select it.
If you don’t see a list of codes, find and highlight the wireless information block and press A on your controller. Then select the Scan for Networks option.
Step 6: Enter your Network key
You’ll now be asked for your wireless password, also known as your network key. This is printed on your Connect card or the Keep me handy card and on the side or bottom of your Sky router.
Always enter your password in capital letters.
When you’re finished, press Start. Press Done after you've entered the Network Key.
Step 7: Test the connection
A test screen prompt will appear which warns you that you’ll be logged out if you test the connection.
Press A and you’ll see a screen with all the network names. Your network will be at the top of the list with a tick in the top right. Press A to select it. A new menu screen called Test X-Box Live Connection will appear, press A again to confirm.
If you are having problems getting online
If you experience problems getting online, check to see if you can get online using another device such as your computer. If you can’t get online, see our Broadband connection problems article section as the problem is likely to be with your internet connection. If you can view websites with your computer and the problem is only affecting your games console, you need to refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
